“The sky is beautiful tonight,” the teen looked up at the sky before looking down, “Tonight was a good last memory.” They smiled tears running down their cheek as they climbed up on the ledge, their thoughts on the arcade they had been at earlier, all their friends still down below playing games not knowing what was about to happen.  “I hope they all live good lives.”

With a deep breath the young adult closed their eyes, spread their arms, and leaned forward to fall off the building, accepting of what was to come.  As they felt their feet finally leave the top of the parking structure, they awaited the end that was about to come.

Almost as soon as they no longer felt the roof beneath them they felt something grabbing them, yanking them backwards with tremendous force.  Their body being dragged back up onto the roof and something collapsing next to them.  Slowly opening their eyes, the teen saw a girl, one they knew, one they had trained alongside in the dojo.  Had she followed them?  Slowly she dragged herself up and kneeled over them, tears starting to form in her eyes.

“WHAT WAS THAT?!” she yelled as she punched the teen in the arm, “WHY WOULD YOU DO SOMETHING SO STUPID?!” she began punching the teen with each punch more tears streaming down her face until she collapsed just crying with her fists resting on the teens chest, “why?” her voice was soft, trembling, confused. She lifted her eyes to look the teen in the eyes and saw that she wasn’t the only one crying, the one she had dragged back to the roof was in tears as well.

“please tell me…” her eyes pleaded as she looked at them, “why would you try this?”

“BECAUSE I’M NOT WHAT EVERYONE THINKS I AM,” the teen bawled, their eyes flooding with tears.

“then what are you?” she begged offering a hand to help them up, “help me understand.”

“I’m a girl!” the teen slapped her hand away looking to the ground unwilling to take the offer, “But… everyone expects me to be a boy, tells me I should be tougher… I… i…” the teen sniffled as tears began running down her cheeks again as the other girl looked on.

Slowly the other girl knelt back down wrapping her arms around her friend, “It’s okay, just cry as long as you need to.” She comforted the girl who had tried to end her life as they sat in an embrace on top of the empty parking structure.  As several minutes passed as the girl stopped crying she looked her in the eyes, “You okay.”

“Yeah,” the girl sniffled.

“Promise me you won’t do this again,” the other girl said as she helped her friend to her feet.

“kay…”

“And for making me worry you’re going on a date with me next week.” The other girl let a sly smile creep across her face as she began leading the girl back down off the parking structure.

“Wait… what?”
